Just as fast where? In straight lines you mean? Cause in track M5 doesn't stand a chance!

The Gallardo's problem vs. the M5/M6 is not its HP, weight or even torque (relative to its weight).

It's the fact that the S85 and SMG III are quite a ruthlessly eficient combination that compensate for a lot either against the Mercs (torque) or Lambo's (lower weight).

The 520 HP with manual was found slower in some cases vs. the ~500 HP + E Gear version.

If it was after me, the Gallardo would loose the AWD, to loose more weight and gain the S85 + SMG III in there.

Considering the lower weight and relative power/torque equality (and vastly superior power/torque per weight), the M5/M6 should have never been a problem for the Gallardo in the first place.
