I think we better leave the powerfigures alone for a while. People tend to be too horny with their fingers and type of scale figures. That's what has happened with the 997TT speculations.

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

I suspect new RS6 will use the Lambo/Audi V10 -- probably with a capacity increase to 5.5Litres, will of course use FSi and be able to rev to manic heights -- but Power output may well be ABOVE 550

My dealer principal was talking to someone from Audi recently with regards the RS6 and they had not decided which powerplant or indeed how much power --- but they had looked of a possible 700BHP

I doubt the production version will land with 700 but along with an increased use of Aluminium, rear biased quattro and DSG it's gonna be one hell of a motor.

But I also think we will see R8 before RS6 -- RS6 isnt even on the horizon, and we have details of launch's to end of 2007 -- RS6 aint one of them at the moment.

welcome Skowdaw!

I think that the next RS6 will give the M5 a run for its money. This power war is just going to escalate into C R A Z I N E S S!

I agree -- untill someone takes a stand -- the TSi concept as used in the Golf GT produced 163bhp from a 1.4 so maybe they could produce a powerfull car - but with a little from economy without being a major powerhouse.

Still, if there wasn't a demand for these cars they would not make -- whilst I'm sure these cars dont make huge profits they surely must need to recoup some money from them, I know the idea is provide a halo for the rest of the range, but there must be a limit ?

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

If the Audi S6 has 420hp I think we can expect a 110hp lead in the new RS6.
I`m shooting for 530hp at best. I`ve also been reading quit a few rumers that thay will increase the the engine size to 5.5liters.

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

This is what I'm thinking (hoping) we're going to see forthcoming RS6.

-an electronic AWD system like those on Evo's or the 997 TT. Now that Porsche own 20% in VW and thus Audi, we could see some part sharing.
-7 speed DSG
-same 5.2 V10 retuned between 520-530hp (just over 100hp/liter)
-huge flared wheel arches and a lowered ride height
-19" standard rims & optional 20"s
-extensive use of aluminium (carbon fiber?) to help lower weight
-standard or optional ceramic brakes. the S8 & RS4 has them as an option.
-LED head lights
-RS4 inspired interior = lots of carbon fiber and awesome sport seats
-0-60 in 4.2 seconds and a quarter mile in 11.9 seconds
-won't arrive until after A6's facelift

wow Porsche Guy you seem to have a good idea........you should tell audi.........i hope they wil tweak it up to 550 hp 5.5 L V10

but its probably not gonna happen

don't forget a top speed (without limiter) of 205 to 207 mph...and a very light wieght engine.

I will tell you what you will see.
-AWD will be Torsen based like in any other Audi. Split 40:60 front:rear.
-7 speed DSG (the one we have seen in Roadjet concept)
-Lowered height of course.
-19 inch rims
-aluminium in the front hood, super light front seats ect. to reduce the weight.
-Ceramic brakes will be optional

The engine will be either a new 5.5 lt V10 with 550 hp or the same 5.2 lt the S6 uses retuned to 520-530 hp.

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

Interesting text in the RS6.com:

Just chatting with a friend on their way to New York show.

Everyone is worried about the next RS6 because the talk on the street is that the S6 is a bit of a damp squib. It could so easily develop 480-500 bhp, so no one understands why it doesn't. (The obvious answer is trhat it would have been too close to the new RS6.) Also the ride has generally been criticised for being crude and less well sorted than RS4's. So the S6 is seen as a marketing man's car not a sports car afficionado's car. Consequently, dealers everywhere are saying either up the power on the S6 or bring the next RS6 out sooner.

The problem for Audi is that its new model realese calendar is full. Deliveries to dealers look something like this: Q7 arriving in time for summer, followed by RS4 Avant and Cabrio late summer, TT in September, Le Mans for Christmas, A5 for March, and then there's the B8 A4. I wonder where the RS6 will fit in? It looks like being a 2008 model year car.

In the meantime, RS6 prototypes continue to be seen being tested both in Germany and elsewhere. Audi should tease us with a sanctioned release of a spy shot that will enable photoshop gurus to give us some automotive pornography or at least a good idea of the real thing.

In terms of spec, I am hearing confirmation of a V-10 twin turbo developing 530-550 bhp, i.e. well above the M5*. Given Audi's recent experience with both Lamborghini Gallardo and S8/S6, tuning the engine is proving to be easy. The challenge is to deliver performance and economy. That said, expect no compromise in terms of go. I find it hard to believe, but they are shooting for a 0-100 kph of around 4.0 - 4.1 seconds!!!!!! with an ungoverned top speed is just south of 200 mph.

Like RS4, expect it to shed weight via extensive use of aluminium. Its party piece, apart from the engine, will be the suspension set-up and ride control.

I am hearing that both manual and automatic options will be offered, but not DSG, bcause it doesn't go with current A6 transmission system.

Comments and descriptions heard among insiders include:

"If Lamborhini produced a wagon/ estate version of the Murcialago, it would be an RS6 Avant."

"The basic A6 is a much better start point for the RS6 than the B7 A4 was for the RS4. So, if you thought RS4 was good, you ain't seen nothin' yet!!!" (I'd like to know how you say that in German)?

The bad news is likely to be the price.
