Here's the sequence.
Try to open car, no joy, keep pressing the open button and sometimes it works after a short while. THEN...
Lock car with remote - OK
Open car with remote - OK
It's now like there's no problem at at..however...
Leave car for a little while and it does NOT open the car.
Try to open car, no joy, keep pressing the open button and sometimes it works after a short while. THEN...

Lock car with remote - OK
Open car with remote - OK

and so on.
So the remote 'works' in that it will open and close the car. However, leave the car for a little while and you need to open with the key. Once open with key, the remote works again until.....you get the idea. Sometimes the remote does work (it's a lottery and 'eventually' if you persist, it does work)

try changing the battery. It worked at my garage door. It might be it...

New batteries in the other day so not that. The remote re-sync thing (press any button on remote then turn the key in the lock according to manual) worked ok. However I still have the same problem.

now, this is something. Did you ask Audi what do they think? Just call your local Audi service and tell them your problem.

i am completely out of ideas, since i have not experienced something like this before.

Perhaps you should try with the spare remote and see what happens.

Only have one remote unfortunately (Audi want £160 for new remote key!!!!!!!).

Had water in passenger well due to drainage hole blockage &/or window open I think in storm. That's all cleared & dried out but there was water and blue gunk(oxidisation) in the connectors in the largish black box under passenger footwell. I've cleaned this up though. Will have another look at this sometime to see if there's any other connectors with the oxidisation. However, I'm sure this is the cause of the problem as I would expect it to work or not work. Instead I've an 'inbetween' scenario as described.
