I can't help but think that the new RS6 is a major disappointment from Audi. They call this the most powerful estate in the world but it can do only 0-100 in 4.7 seconds. Put 572bhp in a car and you'd expect much more than that. And then it comes in Tiptronic - fine if you're driving a normal A6 Avant, but for something so powerful and extreme... It's a bit of an oddity, don't you think?

And then there's the price. You can get an E63 Wagon or a M5 Touring for so much cheaper. What's the point of a 5.2L twin-turbo V10 if you can't have all the fun you want in it? You're much better off with a A6 Avant diesel. In this world of USD140/barrel oil prices, you wouldn't want something heavy, clumsy and over-powered. You wouldn't want an RS6.

Kinda yes, it is a let down. I think it is just sheer weight holding the car back. I'm waiting for the sedan version before making a final judgement.

Conservative they may be, but today sports cars are not just horsepower. Jay Leno once said this about sports cars nowadays: they all rely on horsepower to make up for what they put on in weight (along this line... Not an exact quote) but you get my point. Audi should trim the weight of the RS6 and use less horsepower (yes, I'm not drunk) to achieve something more 21st century... More forward thinking. If you ask me, the days of heavy, high horsepower cars will soon be over.

Not too sure about that Rob - but I've a figment of a memory that says the A8 is lighter. If it's the same engine for both cars that is...
