It is like that since two decades or more, no reason that it would change. Even if both Audi and AMG are beginning to be more sporty without renying their brands' philosophy, M still is the real uncompromised of the three.

Modern M's are tottaly compromised. Just look at the weight of them and the power they require these days. It never used to be about that back in the 70's and 80's. Due to tighter controls and legislations cars are getting heavier, and thats the worst comprimise you can have in a car.
You may see more M's on the track than RS's or AMG's but then again there are alot more imprezas and evos on the track also.
Plus it would be cheaper for a person to have a family car, and then a seperate track/weekend car which if he spends his money well will outrun a M5.
