All I know is that Wolfgang Hoffman eluded to plans for turbocharged engines to become available yet once again in the Audi model line up in an interview he did with Fourtitude. So whatever the future strategy is, I don't know, but there will be more turbocharged engines available in the near future- non S/RS cars.

Quote:
Fourtitude: Turbos have always been a big part of Audi's heritage - today, pretty much relegated to the 2.0T. You see BMW with a turbo mid-range, similar to offerings you have had in the past. Do turbos fit on the top end now, or is that more of something left to other technologies like FSI, valvelift, etc.

Hoffmann: We haven't announced anything about that. But to answer shortly, yes. I think you will see something really exciting in the future with a turbo. Definitely.

Fourtitude: Will it be in the realistic realm, perhaps the B5 S4 or in the exotic realm like what the RS6 was in the past?

Hoffmann: It will be in a more of a high volume segment. You will see something nice in the near future. That is all I can say at the moment.

He is probably talking about the I5 2.5 lt TFSI altought there are also rumors about a 3.2 lt Biturbo (Audi's answer to BMW's 3.0 Biturbo).

I think there will be more than one turbocharged engine though, including the I5 2.5l TFSI you mentioned.

The 3.2 V6 has been considerably upgraded and redesigned so it's not "old" , also a Valvelift version will show up with 300 hp in the next year or two.

You're right, just checked and the engine launched in '03, so @ 4 years it's not an "old" engine. My bad.

To be honest, I don't see 335i and S5 as true rivals. S5 is on its territory.

Only negative with 335i is the lack of a LSD (diff) IMO. That would certainly improve traction and handling. Luckily Hartge has a solution
I wonder why BMW can't package an LSD into the Sports package if they won't have as a standard package... I wonder why?

The 335i offers unrivalled value. That's what happens when you have a FI car as opposed to a NA one - the S5 just can't match the power per dollar ratio of the 335i, no matter how you put it...

Seeing as how prices of the A5 are here, Audi really has an overpriced coupé in its hands if it wants to compete with the 3er coupé.

I like the new terminology "power/dollar ratio"
It should be included as one of the metrics in the car selection criteria.
