They will make it more powerful than the R8. Within a year a 480hp or a 500hp R8 will be launched.

RS5 will probably get the more powerful of the two R8's petrol engines.

Re: New Audi S5 - 02-22-2007, 06:33 PM

As edited by me from the audi A4.

2007 Audi A5

1 - What is it?
Audi's first four seater coupe since the Audi errr coupe.
The all new A5 has a longer wheelbase than most traditional coupes in order to make the rear seat more spacious. It will also be later on available in S and RS versions.

2 - What's under the hood?

Sitting on audi's brand new MLP chassis, which promises to drastically increase dynamics. This next generation chassis allows for audi to use it across nearly their entire range, and can be set-up to understeer, have neutral handling, or oversteer. With this chassis audi can introduce new models more quickly, and cheaper.

Motivation will come via turbocharged 2.0-liter four cul. , 3.2-liter V-6, 3.6-liter V-6, 4.2-liter V-8 and a 5.2 V10 boasting about 480hp.
A redesigned transaxle (incorporating a more compact clutch and differential) allows the engine to sit farther back than it does in Audi models of the past, trimming the front overhang and allowing for better weight distribution.

3 - Any other extra?
Rear biased all-wheel drive, a 7 speed dual-clutch DSG transmission, and Delphi's MagneRide magnetic dampers will be on the options list.

4 - How much?
Base prices will start between that of the 3 series coupe and Mercedes CLK.

If that isn't enough than go for an RS4, there need to be a substansial gap between them.
I'm not sure about the M3 beating the S5 on the track. If it couldn't beat the RS4 on the track why would it take down the S5? This car will have much better driving dynamics than the RS4, most importantly the fact that it has less over hang. You could be right but I'm thinking not!

P.S My remarks inregards to track performance should reflect the majority of the time, not every time.

what people forget is that the Rs4 tested in sportauto had semi R-tires which the M3 didnt use if thats the test you talking about.

I'm not sure what article I got that from. Have they ever tested the M3 with R-tires on any of the same tracks as the RS4?

Nope never, only the M3 CSL but imo CSL and RS4 are different cars and not direct competitiors so I wont compare them.

RS4, R8... could the S5 be the next great driver's Audi?

Ingolstadt has finally started making some driver-focused cars and the S5 could be the next to wow enthusiasts. It will be powered by the company's 4.2-litre V8 mounted up front, driving all four wheels through Audi's quattro system for peerless traction.

The interior shot on the next page makes clear there's a six-speed manual gearbox on offer, and the redline is pegged to a pleasingly high 7000rpm. Power is put at 340bhp, so expect a 0-60mph dash in less than 6.0sec.

Let's just hope it's as good going around corners as it is at hammering along the straights... - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER 3 of 4

I don't think 0-60 in under 6.0 seconds will cut it....it has to be at least 5.3 seconds so it could compete with the 335i. I think the power will most likely be higher than 340bhpp...more like 350-360 hp.
