It's quite unlikely that it was his design.. let's say it wasn't his best decision

OK ... A5.

Khmm ... A very shy attempt by Audi of "let's go a bit more exciting". After TT & R8 this one looks tame. Of course - it should. It is not small funky coupe like TT, or a super-car like R8.

Do I like it? Yes, and no. I can see a lot of "Bangle" elements in it. Concave-convex surfaces mixture (aka "flame surfacing") is very prominent here - more than on any other current Audi car. Also it follows E60 5er agenda of "I want to be boxy & round at the same time". Yet IMO 5er design is more cohesive while A5's (judged on pics only!) has very rectangular front & especially the rear. Eg. 5er rear while being boxy is smoothened by curvy rear lights, while Audi designers put rectangular clusters on rectangular rear - which ends up in very boxy appearence. This pic is just sad looking:



Front is interesting. I like more rectangular appearence yet it is not in harmony with the curvy side. Also the front fascia (grille, air intakes, headlights) is a bit too Audi-generic.



Side profile is best part of the car. Proportions are much improved. 20-something wheels make the car look smaller. Quite prominent reminiscence of last Audi Coupe. Although the rear from side view (rear lights + boot lid) looks a bit too Japanese-generic.



Interior - overall design is Audi-boring & leaves me cold. Yet fit&finish details are amazing, and Audi proved again they are masters of interior fit & finish! I love the details - so missed by BMW - all that specially designed knobs, buttones levers etc. Eg. BMW still uses standard-generic rectangular button designs from 80s. But they are getting better & better.





Conclusion: A5 is a fine car - I expected a bit more, but nice try. More when I see the car in person.

I really don't know what to make of this car. The thing that bothers me most is the front overhang. In some of the pics it seems really short (as in way too short for the proportions), in others it's not that bad...

No complaints about the interior.

The interior looks awesome, but the exterior looks weird(especially the rear end, too much BMW styling)

Walter D'Silva definitely wasn't really far off the mark when he said the Audi A5 is the most beautiful looking car he ever designed.

Okay people...

When I logged on this morning, and saw the official pics of the A5, I was like "WOW, it's finally here"

You know, lately after seen the models S8, S6, TT, S3 and especially R8, I went like

But now... That wasn't there.

Believe it or not..I'm disapointed. My first thought were the front and rear lights. Front is to "corny". The lights should have more smooth lines then that. And the rear... Sorry but I see a BMW 3-series in there. And one thing I don't want to see in an Audi is something from a BMW.

The only two great things I see so far in this car is the side profile and the interior. Nobody beats Audi in the interior still. And I like the new rims too.
