Audi Cabrio gets frugal - 11-05-2005, 09:23 AM

Audi has extended its A4 Cabriolet range, the facelifted version of which was unveiled at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show, with a new entry-level company car tax-friendly diesel version.

The four-cylinder 2.0 TDi produces 138bhp and 236lb ft of torque, enough to propel the A4 from rest to 62mph in 9.7sec and on to 131mph, while still returning a claimed 43.4mpg overall and producing just 176g/km of CO2 with the aid of a diesel particulate filter.

The new diesel will be available in standard, Sport and S-line trim levels, with prices starting at around £26,500 (undercutting the BMW 320Cd convertible by some £2000). It goes on sale next month for deliveries early next year.

The 2.0-litre joins a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel, along with 3.2 V6 and 1.8- and 2.0-litre turbo petrols.
