Please calm down guys. No need to continue a pointless discussion.

Back to the topic.

Matt you cannot compare top speed of M5 and RS4 based on the car's power alone. The gear ratios and the number of gears (7 versus 6) also plays an important role. If you want to tune a car for top speed you need other gear ratios than if you want to tune it for the fastest acceleration posible. Of course you can achive a balance between these two and that's what most sport car makers are doing.

Your car's drag coefficient is also really important when you're going for termal velocity. The M5 has a relatively low drag coefficient, I'm not sure on the RS4, but it certainly helps the M5 attain its high top speed.

Yannis, I know Top Speed can be influenced by gear ratios and drag coefficiants and what not. Top speed in an of itself isnt important but it gives an idea of the high speed acceleration of the RS4 even under 100 mph which may affect its lap times on high speed circuits. The idea im trying to get out there is the closer the car gets to its max speed the slower it accelerates.

Well that's true. In speeds more than 200 km/h , aerodynamics play the most important role and not engine power. Also if you reduce drag coefficient there is a chance you will reduce downforce also and the car might be unstable at high speeds. It's all a matter of testing and good engineering.

I really like the rims.

What is the most aero dynamic car in the world?

I would say that cars like the Lamborghini Diablo or Lambos for that matter, since they have this sharp small profile, would be the most aerodynamic.

What would be the comparison between the the RS4's drag coefficient and the Murcielago's?

Let's say we want to increase the top speed of a car by 10% - how much extra power do we need? Increase in power required is related to increase in speed cubed - i.e. to 1.10 cubed = 1.33. So we need about 33% extra power to achieve 10% increase in top speed. Copyright David Baker and Puma Race Engines

Alternatively let's say we tune an engine and achieve 10% extra power - how much will top speed go up by?. Speed is proportional to the cube root of power - i.e. to the cube root of 1.10 = 1.03. So speed will only increase by about 3%.
