Any constructive suggestions as to what's better?
Estates and known safe and reliable cars under 5 years old only please, for less than £15k with average 10k/yr mileage.
I take it your near london/milton keynes as your looking at backdraft motorsport?

The backdraft kit is basically just bringing the engine up to audi s3/golf ed30/leon cupra spec in its stage 2 plus form.

Im nearly at the full stage 2 plus spec on my car and will be expecting just over 360hp.

Who did your remap?.

Estates for 15k or less and newer than 5 years is the a4 2.0t.

Very important question because there are some shady companies out there. There are many "ECU kits" out there that will make your car more crappy than good.

Here I can't say anything.
1st i'm in Japan, the local market is totally different.
2nd I won't race anything bigger than a Renault Megane
3rd I would not race my daily driver.

Me, here... I would buy a Micra 1.2 manual and race it in the official Nissan March Cup (jap name of the Micra). It's for week end racers. The car is dirt cheap, parts are plentifull for next to nothing, even as automatic it's a blast to drive. I would remove road legal stuff, make it a track only witch matching insurance and move it by trailer only. It would also justify buying a bigger estate to tow and carry parts. Or even keeping the A4 if you really like it. But personnally I would go for the cheapest 5 stars NCap estate on the market (here the Nissan Wingroad would be a perfect match, and buying both at the same dealership would ease the negociations, an Xtrail would fit too, but it's more bulky and really spell 'i wanted an SUV but just had money for this' maybe in europe it's more luxurious, but here it's something you throw in the mud without thinking twice).

Unless you put big money I don't see a lot of estates that would be good for baby duties and track days. Are the actual Hot Hatches too small for family stuff ?
I only had a B5 A4, but it was a fake medium car. Colossal oustside, tiny inside. Before my family only had Renault's which are junk... but the most practical cars on this planet... that make them quite loveable junkers. I don't remember once having problem to move bulky stuff with the Renault. While I don't remember once being able to move stuff with the A4, even a small size CRT TV was too big for the trunk opening and had to go on the backseat.

In the UK you can't beat a 106 Pug for driving thrills for minimal cash. Which actually isn't a bad idea, although I don't want to tow anything anywhere, ever. There's something about being able to roll up to a track day in your street legal car, then thrash it round a track giving a good solid performance, then drive away again while everyone else is still hitching up/ changing fluids etc. I am considering the second car route too, but this thread is just about modding the A4, as I'm concerned about over stressing internals on a track day and making the car unreliable.

I'm actually in the midlands, but Milton Keynes isn't too far away to visit.
The remap was done by E-Maps. I got a very good deal and there is clearly more power from about 2krpm, but it's still not enough!

Has anyone dealt with Backdraft? I e-mailed them to ask a few questions a week ago, but no response yet, I don't want to deal with a company with poor aftersale care.

Have spoke to backdraft over the phone, and on internet forums, but they havent done any work for me. All My work has been done by AMD essex.

If I was you I would get a revo trial put onto your car and see how that goes. Revo maps transform the car, doesnt sound like the e-maps have done so for you. I could never go back to driving my car wihout a map.

If You are ever near south east london your welcome to have a go in mine. Got a friend with a cupra who is running a bigger spec than me in north london, could get him to take you out in his so you can experience what the backdraft kit would be like!

That's a very kind offer Povery, thank you.

I think I'll take up your suggestion on the Revo map trial, nothing ventured... as they say. And it looks like I'm going to have to call backdraft, as they aren't replying to e-mail.

I thought about that for a long time. I actually went out in an RS6 of that generation, but I just don't enjoy the exterior styling. The B7 A4 raised the bar on Audi styling and it's currently my favourite of all the audi stable which is why I'm looking for ways to keep it and still have some silly fun.

The B5 styling was gorgeous!

Let alone the bold, wide aggressive styling of an Rs4

One of my "to-do" list is to get a RS4 body kit for my car. Of course, I'm also planning on completely stripping my car and and turning it into a racer in the future (a few years down the line).
