Audi RS4 Cabrio in Geneva

Official pics for the first of the 3 world premieres that Audi will show in Geneva. It's the RS4 Cabrio, as anticipated. Hairs flying in the winds, four seats, soft-top, a fabolous engine and terrifying performance.

If you really have to know, it has the same engine (V8 4.2 with 420 ps) as the saloon, but it's a tad slower: from 0-100 km/h it takes 4.9 seconds (4,8 s for the saloon), from 0-200 km/h it takes 17.5 seconds (versus 16.9 s).

Must be because it weighs more (underbody reinforcements to compensate the loss of torsional resistance) despite all efforts by Quattro Gmbh to reduce the weight compared to the base A4 Cabrio.

I've read complaints of the S4 cabrio having too much chassis flex. Adding more power is seldom the answer for such a problem.

They might have thought of it with the RS4.

Yeah, this doesn't seem to be the best idea in the world.

True, but that means they're going to have to add more metal (aka weight) to the chassis to strengthen things up. More importantly, I think that making an RS spec cabrio dilutes the RS brand. I liked how there are few cars that get the RS treatment. It makes them special. If every car gets the RS treatment then we just have another AMG.

Whats with the picture? That can not be the RS 4 Cabrio, in fact it believe that is a B6 platform A4/S4 cabrio with a modded or photoshopped grill.

That is not the RS4 but a B&B S4 but i had to add a picture for the article.

The S4 cabrio is more a luxury cruiser than a real sports car like M3 cabrio but as you have already seen in the sedan version the difference between S4 and RS4 is huge due to the upgrades in chassis , AWD and engine.

If the RS4 Cabrio does in fact manifest, then surely it will hold the title of "most pointless drop-top". C'mon, surely this is some kind of marketing smoke and mirrors? We all know that the S4 suffered terribly from the weight gains associated with the additional construction aimed at (attempted) torsional rigidity.

For heaven's sakes man... they couldn't even put electric window winders in the back doors of the saloon in the name of "weight saving" and now this???

The RS4 Cabrio is the last car I want to see from Audi. The last.

I'd sooner see the release of a limited edition TSFi A2 in pearl-effect flamingo pink with purple wheels.

Sometimes the fickle nature of the industry really grates my nuts.

Some how I can't understand all the whining. I think this car will be the meanest looking convertible out there. Hopefully the chassi is stiffened up and that the car is more ridig than the S4 cab.
