A4 cabrio 1.8T quattro with 163 hp has 0-100 km/h in 9.5 sec, there is no way the 220 hp model will have 9.7 sec. |
According to AoA, the front-drive Cabriolet is faster than the quattro.
I have an A4 Cabriolet 3.0 FrontTrak Multitronic. The official 0-60 time is 7.5 seconds. I clock around 6.9 seconds in my car after 3 years of engine break in. In contrast the A4 Cabriolet 3.0 quattro Tiptronic clocks in at 8.5 seconds; incidentally that's exactly what the 1.8T FrontTrak gets!
However the slower time is mostly due to the dreadful Tiptronic, which is over 100 pounds itself, and saps power to boot. The Tiptronic adds roughly 0.7 seconds to the 0-60 time, while the quattro's added weight (another 100 lbs) slows the car down another 0.3 seconds or so.
Also, remember that the Multironic transmission is considerably underestimated in official tests. The Multitronic, with its continuous, uninterrupted gear shifting, is faster than a manual, and much, much faster than a tiptronic. For example, the old FronTrak 3.0 Multitronic had a real world 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds even though AoA put it at over 7 seconds.
The real world 0-60 time of the new A4 3.2 FrontTrak Multitronic comes in at roughly 5.8 to 6.1 seconds. This is slightly better than the manual quattro version. The reason for the slower manual quattro time is due to the power loss during manual shifting, and the 100+ lbs added by quattro. Any advantages the quattro has in terms of eliminating wheel spin and torque steer are negated by the added weight.
