IMO the wagon's rear looks 1000 times better than the sedan's.

Somehow it manages to looks more "mature" than the regular sedan or wagon A4...

A Q5 can't weigh 500kg's more than an A4 Allroad...

Is this like a "cover-your-arse-in-the-light-of-sudden-anti-SUV-sentiment" move from Audi? Why does Audi need this car when they've got a Q5? What benefit does a paltry 180 mm of ground clearance give this car over a regular A4 Avant quattro?

Car makers, seemingly are coming up with variants, simply for the sake of it.

I used to be a solid proponent of raised wagons vs pukka SUVs because I see the science behind the thinking, vis-a-vis, Outback and XC70. But really, the Q5 fulfils the role adequately without any tangible environmental unfriendliness vs this A4 Allroad. A superfluous addition to the range in my opinion.

Although this car has my full blessings, I do see the conflict in them offering it along side the Q5. already I can see consumers procrastinating on dealership floors over which one to buy. Plus there will most likely be a Q1 as well to make things even more confusing. But in the end this is not much different from Mercedes grand lineup of SUVs.

Ultimately this type of saturation significantly hurt company profits and efficiency during a slow down so all three Germans should be careful about filling too many niches.

I kiilllll you.

Now whilst I know that this is typical bone-dry klier rhetoric, let me just clarify something for our less-than-familiar members and guests.

This A4 Allroad is neither new or different, nor does it address anything more than the most obscure of market needs. It's been done before and it needn't have been given the existence of the Q5. Had the latter not been in play then I'd be singing a different tune.

But, in the end, the A4 Allroad is like making a sequel to the original box-office flop.

On that note, it's been a while since I've dispensed one of my truly insightful, yet mind-numbingly succinct metaphors:
German car makers' model ranges are becoming like bowling balls with more and more holes for your fingers - you're going to end up in the gutter if you take it too far...

Viking2000 is on a distinguished road
For many of us Scandinavians the A4 allroad is a great car. I have been thinking of buying the new A4, but the "low" ground clearance would be a problem when going to my winter cottage and when we get a lot of snow. In Norway`s capital, Oslo we have now 100 cm with snow, this creates problems when parking and driving around in a regular A4 before the snow is removed.

Yes, the Q5 will also do the job but we have a lot of taxes on cars in Norway, this relates to power, weight and CO2 emissions. The A4 allroad will be around 10 000 dollar cheaper with the 2.0 TFSI engine - then you get a car that also performes better onroad, but is useful when we have a lot of snow. But it disapoints me that it will not come with air-suspension. A well equipped A4 Allroad 2.0 TFSi will cost 100 000+ USD here in Norway.

The A6 allroad is one of the most popular cars in Norway due to the higher road clearance and a much more nicer emisson reputation and prices than the SUVs. I believe this is the case in many of the North-Europe countries
