In the end, it turn to be just a false rumor. Audi will present a redesigned RS4 sometime in 2008, after the next A4 will be unveiled. </STRONG>The 2008 RS4 will be powered by a more powerful engine with an output of 450 hp. This means a very big challenge for the 420 hp of the BMW - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and the C63 AMG. </STRONG>Until the new RS4 will be unveiled, - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER will bring a convertible version on the US market limited to only 300 units. It will be powered by a 420-horse/317-pound-foot 4.2-liter FSI V-8 engine mated with a six-speed manual gearbox. 2008 RS4 will have 450hp? I thought the next RS4 was due to be released in 2009 right? ![]() | Re: 450 hp RS4: Top Speed As far as I know the new RS4 will be slated for 2009 arrival. The current 08s are being built for delivery on an order only basis and the new A4 will be arriving in US showrooms by the end of 2007/early 2008. 450 HP is a reasonable expectation given the current engine platform, however the biggest change that I think might be expected is a change to the new VW group DSG transmission which seems to be winning over the hearts and minds of many a manual afficionado. Time will tell. I , for one, do not mind given the slickness of the current gearbox and lightning fast changes one can undertake with the least bit of hesitation. |

![]() | Re: 450 hp RS4: Top Speed Hi Yannis,How are you? The rumors i have red on the net tell about a 4.2FSI engine (high revs: 8250rpm/8300rpm) with 2 small turbos at low pressure (like the 335i) and, maybe with variable geometry system (like the 997 turbo). So power will be increased to a minimum of 450 PS. But the very interesting point is the torque: a minimum of 600nm: a mighty thrust in every condition. The second important point is the QVT. This new generation of "quattro" will be lighter, faster and less expensive in terms of engine's power absorbed by the 4x4. The engine situated in a better (like the A5) position will decrease the understeer tendency. |

Honestly I would rather they increase the displacement to 4.4 or 4.6 litre. But then, they can draw from the experience of Porsche in this domain. If they intend on using small turbos in a parallel configuration, I can see the torque-bandwidth staying to the left(on the low end). A variable geometry turbine system will allow them to have a wide torque bandwidth. Whatever approach they adopt, it will be interesting to see the final result- can't wait to see it. | |
