The 1.8 TFSI signals the market debut of a new family of engines and combines the evolution of the TFSI concept with an entirely new basic engine.
The TFSI concept brings together the advantages of petrol direct injection and turbocharging. This innovative technology paves the way for superior road performance and greater dynamism using less fuel and with reduced emissions. With its output of 118 kW (160 bhp) and high peak torque of 250 Nm, it constitutes a powerful basis for sporty driving pleasure.
Audi's engineers have demonstrated the effectiveness of FSI technology in combination with turbocharging not only on racetracks around the world, but also in the guise of the much-acclaimed 2.0 TFSI engine. This concept has been systematically refined for the new 1.8 TFSI. The injection pressure, increased to 150 bar, and the new six-hole injectors guarantee highly homogeneous mixture preparation and extremely efficient combustion.
The integrated turbocharger and a new engine management system bring a further improvement in responsiveness and help the torque to build up even more smoothly. The peak torque of 250 Nm is available across a very wide engine speed range extending from just 1,500 rpm all the way to 4,200 rpm. The entirely new basic engine is designed with an eye to high refinement and low vibrations in particular. The 1.8 TFSI consequently redefines the standard in its class for output, torque and also acoustic behaviour. Its concept makes it suitable for a very broad performance range.
The new high-tech Audi engine is available initially in the A3 and A3 Sportback, both in combination with the six-speed manual gearbox and with the optional S tronic, the dual-clutch gearbox for lightning-fast gearshifts without any perceptible interruptions to the flow of power.
With a top speed of 220 km/h and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds for the 3-door A3 with S tronic, the 1.8 TFSI ensures supreme performance. In the A3 with manual gearbox, the combined fuel consumption is a mere 7.3 litres per 100 km.
The basic price of the A3 1.8 TFSI Attraction with 6-speed manual gearbox is EUR 23,500 (incl. 19 percent VAT). The first vehicles will be available in January 2007." | | | | | Super Moderator

Edit. I just noticed that Fourtitude has that story again today. I wonder why Audi made a second press release...they had also made another press release about this car a couple of months ago.

For one moment I thought this was the well proven 1.8 20V Turbo engine.
Later I found out, this 1.8 Turbo FSI has 4 valves per cylinder resulting in 16 Valves, whether the old one had 5 valves per cylinder, hence the 20 Valves. | | | | | Enthusiast

I am talking about the brand new 1.8TFSI engine that produces 160hp. It is placed on the A3 and on the new A5 and I think on the A4.
Will it be also placed in the new TT??
If yes...roughly about when? | | | | | Connoisseur
