Porsche GT9: Going after the Bugatti Veyron - 01-10-2008, 11:03 PM

The Porsche GT9 by tuner 9ff is going after the Bugatti Veyron and its speed record. Good luck!

Specialist Porsche tuner 9ff is going after the Bugatti Veyron's 407km/h speed record with a mid-engined Porsche GT9 supercar supertweaked to produce 736kW and 964Nm.

Its engineers have set their sights on the car entering the record books as the world's fastest production car with a claimed top speed of more than 403km/h (250mph).

The car is loosely based on a Porsche 911 GT3 but its mechanical package has been totally changed. Its rear-engine layout has been ditched in favour of a custom mid-mounted engine design involving the tuner's twin-turbo, 4.2-litre, flat-six engine.

A production car?
From a tuning shop?
Oh, really?

Didn't some crap like this from Shelby already break the Bugatti record? There is so much more to the Veyron than just the record that these one offs will never have.

Their definition of what is a "production car" is very loose. I would like to see this thing taking a corner, the Veyron is the total package, this thing isn't.

What kind of production car is a Veyron that is not even meant to make any profit...? Veyron is a not a production car, it's CEO's toy project.

^Hmmm, so by that definition, none of GM cars are production cars, cause GM is definitely not making any profit.

LOL...

Read again what I wrote. Veyron is not meant to make any profit, GM cars are meant to make some profit.

But most of them don't. My point is that profit is not a proper criteria to decide if a car is production car or not. There are lot of cars that don't make a profit, that does not make them non-production cars, just a stupid idea. At the same time there are lot of kit cars that turn a profit, that doesn't make them a production car either.
