Re: AMS - 997 Carrera S Kit performance figures - 08-27-2007, 03:26 AM

Thanks!

What caught my attention was this (comparison of std Carrera S vs Performance kit):

-0-100 kph: 4,4 s (4,7 s)

With only +26hp and +15Nm and no weight saving this sounds almost too good to be true...

Could the original 4,7 s (as well as the 4,3s figure for GT3) be a conservative manufacturer number and 4,4s measured by AMS?

Ps. I just drove a C4S last weekend...an awesome car, even with a tiptronic!

All those numbers are measured numbers. Both tests are done by AMS. Maybe they've tested the Kit version in colder weather, when the cooling of the engine is better. We don't know. For example, Quattoruote did 4,5 s with the normal, 355hp-Carrera S

Here's another Carrera S test from AMS with nearly the same data --> http://www.germancarzone.com/997/156...carrera-s.html

But with this little more power it can go around the Hockenheimring as fast as the 997 Turbo (1.13,7 min) for example

I must agree with this. Originally I was not sure if the kit was worth it, but with the figures posted here...well, it suddenly starts to make sense

"The 4.7 0-100kph time seems really conservative to me, thats slower than the factory listed time for a standard Carrera S. Though the driving conditions and what not may have affected the performance. The Power Kit in the US costs $16,900 and some change, not exactly a bargain for less than 30 hp gain and some odd torque. Trust me, the Carrera S is already fast enough without the extra 30 hp.

I checked the RUF USA website, and you can get a 80-100 hp/30lb/ft Torque gain for about $27,000 to put things into perspective. I think that Porsche should just make the 381 hp figure standard instead of charging such a premium on a small power gain."

I posted this in the other Carrera S thread...haha...spam.
