2006 Porsche 911 Turbo
Our spies say Porsche engineers are hard at work testing the coming 2006 Turbo, which should arrive in North America sometime next year. We hear the next Turbo will pack a 490-hp punch from a blown version of the 3.8-liter flat six in the Carrera S. As with the current model, all-wheel drive will be standard. Word is that a Porsche version of a sequential manual gearbox will be offered by 2007.
Looks mean and agressive and with 490hp, this thing will eat up anything on the road, and out handle most too. | | | | | Expert

If your favorite car is the F430 or the Gallardo than you should be very scared of this car. Becasue when this beast is out it'll spank every single car on the roads. The 996 GT2 packs 483hp and pushes 0-100 in 4 seconds flat and if the 997 turbo turn out to produce 490hp and house a SMG gearbox it'll blow the competition off the road. The only cars that will be able to beat this will probably only be super cars.
Can't wait to see this car on the roads, well done Porsche.

Its amazing how power and technology evlove so quickly, personally i love the Porsche. But the look of the 360/430 and Lambo's got it hands down, very supercar like image.
Porsche's are hot and i do love them, but the look is very common to me at this point, i've driven the 911 Turbo before, power is on point, but for that money i would like the exotic look too. | | | | | Expert

Yeah true indeed. The 911 doesn't look as exotic as the F430 and gallardo. Porsche cars are kind of mid-exotic. Their looks are somewhere betwheen MB/BMW and Ferrari/Lamborghini on the hirarcy. Unfortunately the design of the car can't be change due to the design being an actual function. Eventhough the F430 looks more exited the enginering of the 911 is something that is unmatched and it's performance is more superior than the F430 and Gallardo. | | | | | Fanatic

For my money a 911 Turbo out-exotics an F430 or a Gallardo. Anyday.
Sure, those cars are all flash and Italian machismo and they're brilliant to drive too... but, they're fragile compared to the built-from-solid-bedrock-of-Zuffenhausen 911 Turbo.
The story goes like this for me, I used to be an avid Ferrari fan, had all sorts of apparell and worshipped the passion infused ethos of the italian prancing horse. I used to attend Ferrari open days at Kyalami with vigour. And then... some years ago, I attended a day where the turn-out wasn't that great and the spectacle less than awe-inspiring. I came off the pit wall feeling that the day had just been a little dull. Certain key models had not pitched.
So, homeward bound I headed through the VIP parking area only to stumble on a lone silver, brand new 996 Turbo standing in a now deserted parking lot. That image will stay with me to the day that I die. Here among all of this Italian fanfare stood my car of the day, resplendent with wide haunches and smooth, flowing curves. It had a compact, purposeful proportion that no other supercar can match in my mind...
I, along with many others, firmly believe that the 911 Turbo is the greatest car in the world.
As for RWD vs. AWD in a turbo - it's simple: the seminal 959 ushered in 4wd for Porsche but it wasn't until the 993 Turbo that AWD drive was re-introduced in a Porsche with astonishing results. Since then 911 Turbos have been split into two differentiating models namely the brilliant all-rounder AWD 911 Turbo (and later S derivatives) and the more hard-core 911 GT2 which has RWD and is aimed at extracting maximum performance out of a turbo'd rear wheel drive 911. | | | | | Connoisseur

Martinbo, that was a beautiful story and vivid imaging. I appreciatte your delight in the 911, i too had a similar situation, when the new F430 first arrived, and it had to be one of the first in the US for sure it was about a year (maybe a bit less) ago or so.
My friend delivers highline cars like so from the airports, and delivery docks in NJ, i went with him once and there are rooms where these cars are stored (locked and private). Anyways he was picking up a Bentley Gt or something when in the next room i heard a psychotic, ear piercing sharp sound of an ehaust that sounded familiar, yet unfamiliar. As i open the door to the room next door, sitting there running is a Red Ferrari F430, most beautiful thing to me i had seen. I got to touch it, walk around and view it, and even open the door, when at that moment the security walked in from another entrance and yelled at me for bieng there and told me to leave . Sadly, i did just so, my friend later had told me the car was there for testing and was one of the first in the states.
As much love i have for Ferrari, i had that much more passion that day for it. Maybe its faster or not as fast as its competitors, i dont care, too me there is nothing more exotic, nor more beautiful than the 360/430's, that is my feelings towards that machine, obviously being sucha ferrari lover yourself, once upon a time, im sure you can appreciatte the feeling yourself. Probably just so you feel about the 911. | | | | | Expert

Yes I agree with you Martin, the 911 Turbo is indeed one of the greatest cars on earth. It is dead fast and it probably handles better than any car under 300k. For approximently 1 years ago I didn't care that much about Porsche cars and my opinion was the sam as many other people and that was that all Porsche look the same. Then I stared reading lots and about porsche cars and noticed that eventhough they have less power than the competitors they as still as fast. I searched for information about the history of Porsche and found out how incredible the 911 really is.
In terms of enginering the 911 is the best and most impressive peice of enginering on this earth. The cooperation between the boxter engine, active suspension, Mc.Phearson suspension, sexy but airdynamic shape and the low weight has proven to be an unbeatable recipe. Most people that don't appritiate the 911 are the ones that knows jack about it. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
