The engine of the M3 is rumored to originate from M5 with two cylinders less so should be exactly 4.0 lt. On the other hand perhaps BMW was forced to revise the engine and increase the volume because of RS4.

True that the engine of the M5 has an output of around 630 hp without the limiter but even in that case the M3 should have around the 4/5 of that meaning 424 hp.
