![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 2008 Porsche GT2 Oops! Frankfurt 2007: 2008 Porsche GT2 caught behind closed doors ![]() click above image for high-res gallery of live shots We're a little eager for this year's 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show to start, so while attending the official soiree of media professionals at the Frankfurt Messe, we poked around until something caught our attention. That would be the 2008 Porsche GT2, the most fierce piece of hardware that Stuttgart has to offer. We already know its specs: 530 horsepower from a twin-turbo version of the automaker's famous flat-six, 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, a 204-mph top speed, and 18.8 mpg makes a nice cherry on top. Numbers on a page didn't prepare us, however, for the awesome presence of Porsche's new GT2. Take a look at the rear rolling stock, for instance, which look Viper thick at 325mm across. Actually, Vipers wear 345 in the rear, but the Porsche's rear rubber is tucked inside a much smaller derriere. Or how about those ginormous disc brakes, which we guess are carbon ceramics based on the fact the calipers were painted yellow. The seats, as well, are bolstered like a big bear hug, while being as thin as your favorite lawn chair to save weight. We poked around the empty room in which Porsche will officially unveil the GT2 in public tomorrow, but were eventually tossed out like a used set of the GT2's rear tires. Check out the entire group of pics we managed to nab in our gallery below, before getting the big boot, that is. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Porsche 997 GT2 Official Thread Confirmed: Porsche 911 GT2 will do the Nurburgring in 7:31 ![]() The new 911 GT2 is fast. How fast? When we reported that it would lap the famed Nordschleife circuit in just 7 minutes and 32 seconds many of our regular readers expressed their disbelief and doubt. The image came from a leaked brochure but we were unable to get official confirmation on this as Porsche’s local (Australian) press office is incredibly uncooperative with Internet media. Well, doubt no more. Our friends over at Auto Motor & Sport Sweden recently interviewed Porsche test driver and rally god Walter Röhrl, who discusses his experience with the new supercar. He claims he has done the Nordschleife in an incredible 7:31m, even faster than the factory figure we provided. Röhrl also goes on to say the GT2 is so fast that even he’s sometimes scared of its power and that despite being RWD only (the Turbo is AWD) it’s still able to put down all of its 530hp effectively. Click here for our original write-up of the GT2 and here for a video of the car on the road and track. Nring in 7:31! That's crazzzzyy!!!! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Porsche 997 GT2 Official Thread Superb car. But I prefer the GT3 bodykit. The rear wing is better though. I have 2 problems with that car: 1) the noise. I hope it won't be the same noise than the Turbo... Given the titanium pipes I think that is not a problem at all, on the contrary. Spyers called it the Noisemaker, so... 2) And that is the real problem: A redzone beginning at 6500 on such a hard-core supersportcar with manual gearbox??? The manual gearbox is a good new, I am no fan of the SMG/DSG/F1/PDK gearboxes on a sportcar. But 6500, that is very very soon.. Great deception. Can't call that a high-revver engine like the GT3... But let's wait the test, and see if it is better than the GT3 in term of driving pleasure!!! The Nurb times are really really impressive!! |
