The manual gearbox is a good new, I am no fan of the SMG/DSG/F1/PDK gearboxes on a sportcar.

But 6500, that is very very soon.. Great deception. Can't call that a high-revver engine like the GT3...
First off, why do you want to rev to 8K RPM? Are you saying that all sports cars have to be high revving? Secondly, and more importantly, is the fact that the GT2 is turbo charged, so it makes a lot more power and torque at much lower RPMs. This is because the turbo chargers force extra air into the cylinder allowing the engine to burn more fuel during each cycle giving you greater power per cycle (RPM). The GT3 revs so much higher because it's trying to get attain more HP by increasing the number of power cycles (RPMs) because it can't increase the amount of oxygen in its cylinders above the ambient air pressure. The GT2 doesn't need to rev to 8K to find power. It makes more HP than a GT3 below 5k RPM. The GT2 also has almost twice the torque of the GT3 across its entire power band. It will pull hard in any gear at any engine speed. Why rev if you don't have to?

But let's wait the test, and see if it is better than the GT3 in term of driving pleasure!!!

The Nurb times are really really impressive!!
Do you know what the CGT or the Enzo's best Nring times were?

Re: Porsche 997 GT2 Official Thread

Because it is pure pleasure to revv till 8,000... Noise becoming more and more thrilling, power increasing and increasing...

6500 is really low, you will have to change your gears very soon... Does not offer the same pleasure than a high-revving engine. Even if it is more powerful, full of low-end torque, it is not as pure as the GT3.
Too bad.

But awesome car, and the times are really astonishing!!! Must be an experience, so much power...

The GT2 sounds fantastic much better than the Turbo which has very disappointing sound.

Too bad.
But it was never meant to be like a GT3, hence the reasons why they offer both a high revving GT3 and a more torquey, forced induction GT2.

Doesn't really work like that. All automobiles have different gearing and in the GT2's case, you can be sure it's eqquiped with much longer gearing than that of a GT3.

Re: Porsche 997 GT2 Official Thread

I'm sure the new GT2 will rev up to 6900-7000 rpm.

The 997 Turbo's shift rev is 6800 and the max is 7000. It can reach it's 310 kph top speed at 6850 rpm.
The old (996) GT2's high rev was 6900, and it reached 315 kph @ 6750 rpm.

The redline is at 6500 rpm in both, so no worries

Re: Porsche 997 GT2 Official Thread

Porsches with turbo need the lowest revs (because of the high torq at low revs)...

Just look at this

Shift rpms
8400 rpm - GT3/GT3 RS
8400 rpm - Carrera GT
7300 rpm - 997 Carrera/S, Boxster/S
~6900 rpm - 997 GT2 with Turbo
6800 rpm - 997 Turbo

The gearing of the 997 Turbo (GT2 will be similar IMO, except 6th gear)
