Exclamation BMW 770Li W12 ?? - 09-14-2006, 07:57 PM

Is this 770Li real or badge-engineered?

BMW 770Li?Is BMW about to bring out a top-end, long wheelbase 7-Series – with a VW/Audi-style W12 engine under the bonnet?

That’s one conclusion to be drawn from this photo, snapped by eagle-eyed PHer vinceh in London this week. If true, it would push the top end of BMW’s price list even higher -- the 760Li currently sports a tag of £83,730 -- and the performance of Munich's portly 2,255Kg luxo-barge even higher; the 445bhp 6-litre V12 in the 760Li will power it to 62mph from rest in a highly respectable 5.6 seconds.

Alternatively, maybe someone’s just having a larf with some badges...

It's got to be a fake. Why would BMW test it in a preFL model?

Everyone can put different combination of numbers together.

Why not 780Li instead of 770Li?

It's a badge-engineering by some freak. Look: it's even are pre-facelifted 7er.

why not 780...... 770 is much easy to make with... if using PS, just do copy and paste will do and the W12... maybe just copy the V and pasted next to it....

if it is a real photo.... much simple, just get another number and replace it .... then i will choose a 747Li..... or 007Li...

A W12 engine is essentially two joint V6 engines and since BMW only makes Inline six-cylinder engines it's obvious that this is fake.

I think you are right. You can see that the second 7 is exactly the same as the other one, and so does the W which is basicly two V's.

I have seen this actual car in London, was surprised when I saw the badge but knew it was BS when I saw the W12 badge!

The car also had after market rims, so I assumed it was just kitted up! I was parked outside a nice hotel though, surprising how even rich people like to make a good car seem ever better!

FAKE

After examining the badges for some time, I think I found the problem.

The W12 badges were ripped from a Volkswagen Phaeton / Audi A8 W12. Look at the difference in font style between the two different badges. Big difference. The BMW fonts are bolder and fatter, the VW font is thinner.

When I was in London, I saw a Mercedes E000 and a Smart CDI V12 Biturbo.
