![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks EnI, so now tell me, will the next single turbo straight six diesel get twin-scroll tech? If so, they'll call in a TwinPower unit too. So then how will Tycoon tell his pals that his car has two turbos when everything's called TwinPower? ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | "How they call it" is important to me. It shows an attention to detail. The don't need to mention it on the car itself a la xDrive / sDrive but at least call it what it is in the press pack info. TwinPower. Really. The next thing they'll be doing something diabolical like TSI! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Turbo tech is developing & changing with a speed of light these days. So, that would mean marketing names would have to be changed eg. every year or two - but BMW opted for a consistency & consolidation. TwinPower Turbo will be used in the future - for all the encanced turbo engine (eg. twinscroll, twin turbos etc) ... MultiTurbo Power label is considered to be used for all the future multi-tech turbo engines etc. Mind that BMW always used "i" for all possible petrol engines, and "d" for all diesel engines. No matter what tech has been used behind. ![]() TSI etc is typical VAG domain. Be sure TwinPower label combined with simple "i" or "d" trademarks makes more sense to vast majority of customers than cryptic labels / trademarks like "TSI" , "TFSI", "CGI", "CDI", "TSDI" etc. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | BMW to introduce more powerful and efficient version of twin-turbo 3.0-liter diesel ![]() BMW has just announced an upgraded version of its 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine. The new version retains the same displacement, yet output for the European spec version is increased from 286 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque to 306 hp and 442 lb-ft. At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced by four percent compared to the previous version. BMW has updated the fuel injection system to its latest generation common rail system. That means the injector pressure has been bumped from 1,600 BAR (23,000 psi) to 2,000 BAR (29,000 psi), allowing for even more precise metering of the fuel flow. The dual stage turbocharger system is now also more efficient. Since BMW only just introduced a version of the previous engine with U.S. legal after-treatment systems in late 2008, it seems unlikely that the U.S. will receive the upgrades in the near future. - http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/23/b...n-of-twin-tur/

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I do wonder if the U.S. will get this engine. Yikes the numbers are staggering. A 335d with this engine could render the 335i pointless from some buyers here. M
