![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Daimler-Benz made V12s since ages. For planes. However, it is BMW who introduced the first German V12 luxury-saloon, as the E32 750iLA had only the V8-powered W126 560SEL against it. The W140 MB 600SEL appeared only later. However, as much as the 750's V12 was (even back then) considered as a pretty inferior motor compared to the V8 versions, the W140 really did shock the world with its refinement and insane power. The game back then was to open the hood of the 600, place a coin (on its thin, circular face) onto the motor (even hard to get it stand!), go back in the car and start the motor. The coin didn't move or fall!! Unbelievable. I saw it with my eyes, couldn't believe it. You then did the same with any other car on the planet and the coin immediately felt and shaked like hell. Then, you looked with commiseration to the other guy and softly closed the bonnet of your 600, engaged the reverse gear and stunned the poor not-W140-owner with you boot-antennas. You also could play to "I smoke your noisy Ferrari with my super-smooth über-luxury barge without moving an eyelid". Si the 600 is definitely the Daddy. Not the first, true, but BMW's first V12 did not mark anybody whereas the V12 of the 600 did changed the face of the automotive world.

I do not know about the V12 receiving xDrive. Currently all my documents relate to the V8 and Diesel only.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Not that it is that interesting in this thread, but most tests find the C63 a little faster to 200 (we are talking about around a couple of seconds here) and they are even steven at the quarter mile run, so, they are about the samt. The driver will make the difference.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Scott,i know what u meant, but i was also stating some facts about MB's experience in that field. BMW first introduced in a modern car,but look now to it's line up..only one car has a V12 while MB has dozens? u'll see much more V12 MB cars parked outside palaces, mansions hot spots than other BMW could ever be. |

Anyway, Tarek I know you love MB but wait and judge new V12 engine from BMW when we read some proper reviews. You are way too fast to judge, now you just sound like a MB fan on anabolic steroids.

But yes in the end the 760i has as expected BMW DNA. Whether or not consumers in this segment appreciates it is to be determined by the sales. People who desire slightly less comfort in preference of sporty dynamics might appreciate it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Honestly, saying 750Nm from 1500 to 5000 rpm is not enough is a bit excessive... Be sure that the new 8-speeds gearbox's torque converter does suck significantly less hp and torque than the super-old 5 gears of the 600, so that in the end both must be quite similar in terms of effective wheel-delivered torque. And even if not... 750nM for bit more than two tons, these are numbers a heavy-duty roadtrain could be jealous of...
