| Re: Jeremy Clarkson on the BMW 730d SE I love Clarkson... But never take him seriously. He's all about entertaining people. Sometimes however, he does say loud what many others think silently... Some other times, he just doesn't make any sense. I struggled to see the meaning of this particular review though. He didn't even spoke about the car by itself... I understood it so: he spoke about left-handed people because (I'm stating his opinion here  ) they are different, think they're superior and say it loud, which annoys other people.So he compares this car to a left-handed man: different than an S, thinks it's better and say it loud, while in fact it's just annoying... Which explains the 2 Stars: it's different than the S, but that's all it is... It's a bit tortuous but i like it...

And since #1 issue in UK is still racism etc. he is starting to use racistic & nationalistic claims in his "automotive" reviews ... Lately he called British PM Brown an "one-eyed Scottish idiot", and I can see in this particular text about 730d SE he called Rafael Nadal "Spanish ape".  Quote:

Nationalistic connotation is implied in the context. It's different when saying "Scottish idiot" or "Spanish ape", then "idiot from / (born in) Scotland" , or "ape from / (playing for) Spain". Completely different point. In the first case the emphasis is on adjective, in the second one on the subject itself. Scottish = of Scotland's nation, Spanish = of Spain's nation. Clarkson is know for VERY politically incorrect language. Often very offensive - in nationalistic / racistic way. And he does that on purpose - to drag attention. Controversy = debate = maximum publicity. | |
