Re: BMW 7er E65 system wide crash?

alrite thanks for all the inputs.

apparent it was caused by this thing called "power generator", it's quite complicated.

this is what the bmw technician told my dad:

- the battery was in a weak state, it hasn't been replaced in 4 years since my dad got the car. but going on one battery for more than 4 years is not that uncommon, plus, if the battery is really dead, my dad wouldn't be able to start the engine in the first place. so...

- it was the power generator that failed, hence all the stuff that required "power" were out.

- usually when a generator fails, a battery would back it up while the warning light tells the driver to go fix it asap. but since the battery itself wasn't in a good shape, it was unable to provide power to a/c, window, steering, phone and what not. and becuase too many things happened too quickly, there weren't any chance for the warning light for the power generator to lit.

well, i dont know how much of it is truth since i am no expert in this field...

dad is pretty torned between getting a s-class or keeping the 7er, it just happened that my company is getting 15% off on all mercedes models, and there are still rooms for negotiation if paid by cash.

i certainly hope he doesn't get a new s-class now, i'd cry when i see the facelift model

again thanks for all comments.

You are probably talking about the previous (E65) 7er. You can't say that S-Class is more reliable than the brand new (F01) 7er when there are no comparable statistics available yet.

Actually, your battery starting to fail would have those problems. The electronics would start going crazy then eventually your car won't be able to start.

Going 4 years on a car that has tons of electronics is a bit pushing imho. I could be totally wrong, but batteries don't cost THAT much and should be replaced as it is a main component of the car.

When you say "power generator" do you mean the alternator?
