Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Could someone please summarize the main technical innovations of this car?

I know it has Lane assist (does it correct the steering or not?), blind-sport assyst, upgraded night-vision with pedestrians recognition, traffic-sign recognition, Distronic-Plus, I think also a side-view camera.

I also read it has the user's manual recorded in the bord -computer...Sort of "help" button like in a computer... Now that is BRILLIANT! Why didn't the others think to it, with the hard-disc GPS and computerized bord-computer??

I don't think the W221 has it, does it? it's a very clever feature. I like it a lot. Help function in the iDrive...

Did I miss any major feature?

The thing is, what happens if there is some error with the system or the screen, and you need to read the user manual, will you still be able to access the help function? MB has a DVD user manual which I think owners can play it inside the car.

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Well a paper-user's manual is certainbly also included, but the fact that it is available directly in the system is absolutely brilliant and so logical... And honestly, if you have a major failure, and if re-starting the car doesn't help, then it is advisable to go to the dealer.

A DVD-manual is stupid. Useless. Here, from what I read, it's in the system, available all the time.

Want to do smthg, don't know how and no want to search for hours? No prob, hit the help button and voilą! No need to search through a 300 pages manual or to look for the DVD, put it in the system, play it, try to remember what it says and do it...

Simple and brilliant.

I have to say however, that the DOS vs Windows thing made me hope a bit more, it's very far from making the competition look ancient... This car is up-to-date but nothing revolutionary.

I like this new 7er a lot. Surely it will only improve IRL. It's so much more BMW than the e65... So much sleeker... (even if the e65 with Adaptive Drive was amazingly nimble it looked like an Americanized hippo)...

Seriously i think that BMW designers have found lately the thin line between innovation in design and elegance.

X6 and 7 series prove that.

Classic , Timeless , Emotion,
If you had tears of joy in your eyes when you saw the car move and the music accompanying the images were appreciated with awe. Then my work is done.

We still have Phase II to come and that will be equally emotional.

The V12 will debut @ Geneva 2009. Vision Active Hybrid 7 and Vision Hydrogen 7 sooner.
