Next to no one here has actually seen the car and yet all of you are saying how "disappointed" you are with the design. No wonder we live in such a troubled world, because people are so quick to jump to conclusions before they can attain a full perspective. Yes all of you are entitled to your opinions, but no one ever said opinions are rational.

Can't say that's always been true, but thanks!

It looks (IMO) like a new 7er should. I think expectations were so high because the E60/65 was so revolutionary and original. The F01/2 appears modest in pictures, but it's a carefully massaged design when you look at it and then the last of the E60/65 FCI models. I think a good car design raises questions but doesn't completely neglect or throw away the past.

Exactly my thoughts ... i Guess some of us here were shocked by how conservative the design is ... maybe scott & eni had our hopes raised high but to be honest they didn't mislead us or lie to us ... they were just a little bit too enthusiastic about it ... Well I had my shock when first FEP pics came out .. i knew that minor details here and there wouldn't change the whole car but I guess it grow on me since ... like the E92/E71 .... not ground breaking but elegant and conservative ...

Thanks man

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Haha ... first Lexus copied BMW and Mercer cues - now BMW copies back (in a very innovative way). I'm curious about how the next LS will look like since Lexus has nothing to copy anymore (j/k)

The F01/02s design still has to grow on me. It's not what the most of us have expected, but IMO it's better than just releasing a copy of the CS.

Overall, I like the new 7er, it is much more conservative than I was expecting ...but maybe that is anticipating a change in the market. The global economy is looking very insecure right now ...people who can afford a car like this, often prefer more conservative things in tougher times.
Very good!! Didn't have thought about this. But you could be right. We all know what happend to the W140, Merc S-Class! Maybe BMW wants to evade such a desaster and made the whole thing more conservative. Probably that's the reason why I like this car.

Re: Official: The New BMW 7 Series

Based on the photos and the proportions, the new 7er doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. We have the basis of a 4 door BMW sedan. Yet at the front, it seems to me like it shagged a Z4 and out came this awkward (very un-sedan-like, more like a roadster type bumper, which omg, can you imagine how expensive it will be to replace all of that stuff? The front bumper on this car seems to have been rendered useless to the designers...).

Anyway, next the windshield is quite short vertically making it very chop top like. Seems as if the green house has been cut down quite a bit. The crease of the character line makes for a very prominent ridge which cuts the car in half, arguably (imo) the best design aspect of the exterior. Love how the door handles are integrated. Lovely. The wheels are pushed out quite a bit, especially in the front which doesn't seem to lend much by way of making this look like a sedan which is what it is right? The taillights are a disaster. The bulbous-ness, the way they protrude out of the body work on the sides is terrible. It's very trendy these days though and I don't know why?!?

What is the trim piece behind the front wheels?

The iDrive looks totally cool.

Overall, the new 7 is really something to behold... But it doesn't look like a sedan. If the Z4, current 7 and the Lexus LS all got together for a quicky this is what would come out. It's crazy... And I kind of like it... a lot...
