LOL. Ok, the Ford is ugly, and the wheelarches of the S-class are ugly. The S itself is not ugly....but it aint pretty either ![]()

![]() | Re: F01 / F02 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info Part IV (first FEP pics incl.!!!) I am absolutely convinced that the 'fenders' was part of the American Retro influenece infiltrating the Mercedes design studio when it was in bed with Chrysler. The Fender trend started with the PT Cruiser -- and the US market [particularly] loves Retro styling. The dashboard of the S class is vaguely Retro too. Obviously these Retro details are very watered down, they are subtle, but they are still there. Mercedes design has been incorporating subtle Retro elements into their model line. They could be seen as "classic Mercedes styling elements" -- but lets be honest, it is all about using nostalgic styling to create a sense of history around the Mercedes brand. A great deal of it comes back to a marketing strategy.

![]() | Re: F01 / F02 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info Part IV (first FEP pics incl.!!!) ^ It is the rear wheel arch that ruins the look of the S class. The CL's ones are far more successful.

![]() ![]() | Re: F01 / F02 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info Part IV (first FEP pics incl.!!!) I used to think the same thing about the wheel arches. However, I dont think pictures do the car justice at all. Much like how many of the more recent bimmer designs dont look particularly good in pictures but look great on real life. I prefer the darker colored s classes more because the wheel arches dont stand out as much. With that being said I'll take a black s65 amg over a 7 series any day of the week. Hopefully the F01 changes my opinion. |
