Camless engine is still not ready for production. Still too unreliable. The problem are electric circuit (42V), in-car communication protocol (current ones are still too slow & too unreliable), sensors are still the weakest part.
Launching a camless engine at this time would be too risky.
The case with 42V electric circuit is even more complicated - there is no consensus among car manufacturers, and even more problematic - there is no 42V-compatible appliances in the market (eg. entertainment units etc). So 42V system is too exotic at this time - all features would be tailor made and therefore much too expensive for a serial production.

Disign is great - the car is gorgeous, having much greater presence than S-class, LS or A8.
Regarding AWS & Co.:
BMW are determined to make this car to be the ultimate benchmark in driving dynamics in the segment.
Dynamic Drive features BMW are working on currently are brilliant: new front & rear active suspension (based on FlexRay protocol), Adaptive Drive v2.0 (EDC + ARS), air-suspension, Active steering v2.0 (incl AWS), Dynamic Performance Control rear diff, DSC ++ (next gen.), etc.
