I highly doubt that BMW would actually remove a feature. It isn't about the usefulness of it but more about bragging rights in the segment as to which is the most technologically advanced.

On to the car itself, I don't want to comment much on the predicted interiors or exteriors but it looks like its turning out to be a pretty good car. I really like the overall dimensions and surfaces but last judgement remains for when I see it in person.

I have a question: Could somebody explain to me why everybody seems to hate the steering mounted gear shift? I really thought it was "low rent" before I used it for the first time in a 7 and then in the S,Gl etc. and now I know there are tons of advantages to it. For one you get a lot more storage space in the front. Add to that your hands and the passengers hands have ample space rest unlike other cars. And the major factor that it becomes really convenient to use the iDrive or COMAND dial without any obstruction or weird angle to consider. I haven't been in a X5 or X6 but even if it isn't uncomfortable per se, I can guarantee that it won't be as comfortable as having it dead centre with ample cushioning.

I fully agree. I used in in a 7er and in some MBs, it's absolutely brilliant. Very easy to use (not so on the 7er but you get used to it), saves spaces, looks good, I don't see anything against it.
