i don't see this happening. at the moment everyone wants to have a radical design theme - even vw and volvo. by the time the new 7series is going to be released, i see alot of criticism first because its design is very neutral - so more or less a revised history. but again, driving that car will make you stand out from the growed - and this is what people search for. i see simplicity as one of the head themes for the upcoming years(not only car design).

the new less is more generation, form follows function, reduction of opulence

Btw, I'm surprised nobody hasn't comment yet on the Rolls-Royce influenced "waftability-line" featured on the F01.

Waftability-line: The lower character line / swoosh at the bottom of side doors curving up towards the front wheel arch, and then curving slightly back to the rear (on F01 ending with the new prominent side turn signal in CS-style).

Can somebody with more time & skills shows graphically what I'm talking about ....

i don't really think that a photoshop is needed, the cs has the line
and in the spy pic its also visible

maybe some kind of crossedover family identity

Looks great, would've wanted the kidney grille to be wider/flatter though, and the front overhang seems a bit long for a BMW.. and damn, Lexus tail pipes!

I first impressions of the new 7er, which has finally lost some camo, are very good!

I really like the side profile, not too sure about the front and back yet as you can't make out the lights too well yet! It reminds me of the new Citroen C5, no bad thing, I really like the design of that car!

So, for the next 7 years radical styling is gone at BMW. Refinement is the key word. Radical will be the new mobility concepts such as SAC, PAS, SAS, GT, microcar etc - but more in general shape than in styling.

But in the year 2015 ... Design revolution ver. 2.0 begins.

Well said Eni, I couldn`t have said it better... this should be understood at fanbase.

Btw, whoever thought I was complaining about the design is dead wrong.. I`m loving it!

To "push the limits / boundaries as further as possible" is the work of a Concept Car.

To "work on refining & evolving the solutions / design theme" is what a designer does for the car that will enter the market.

Bangle and Co have turned some of their cars into Concept Cars and released them completely unrefined on the market. It's a completely wrong move in my eyes. That is why the Beemers only begin to look how they always should have looked...

That is at least how I see things!!

I asked "the birdie" for his opinion on F01 ...

He said IHO F01 was the best looking BMW so far. Best combination of sportiness / aggressiveness & elegance ever seen in upper class sedan segment. Again he said F01 topped Quatroporte in that aspect.

I can only agree with him. Adding that F01 really may not be the most exciting & original BMW design ever but it is one of the finest though.

I think it indeed looks very fine. I really am waiting for the official pics, but it's promising. Classy, elegant, while dynamic... Of course it's hard to judge a car without the front and the rear, but at least the profile looks very good!
