I don't have a problem with the wedge profile as such, only when it has been taken a little too far by the designers as is the case in the w203 and to a lesser extent the w209. The rear of the w203 sits so high up it looks awkward, very narrow and insubstantial, detracting completely from the sporting/agressive appeal intended by the wedge profile.
The CLK can also be accused of this, but to a much lesser degree. Roberto I dont believe the wedge profile has anything to do with the CLK looking dated, but rather the bland and banal detailing of the sheetmetal etc.
However, the w220 and w211 on a good set of decently sized alloys nailed the wedge profile to perfection! |
