As I have said before, I've had this off and on, love/hate relationship w/ the design of the E63/64 6 series. I've found that my beef w/ the current 6 series is that it lacks the definitive sleek coupe proportions seen in both the orignal 6er(E24), and 8 series(E31). Both of the former models had a very definitive look about them, everything, from the hood to the rear deck was in perfect harmony and balance. The current 6 series on the other hand is a jumble of things mixed together, the front can't make up it's mind about whether it wants to be a bullet or a shark(the latter was supposedly the inspiration? I don't see it?). The rear looks like some sort of fashion statement and totally rips apart the side profile. If they wanted to make it a 911 then they just should have done so to begin w/ by scrapping the hump in the rear. I always told everyone around me that when the new 6er was to be launched, the car would become my "anthem" - my car, the car that would be everything I thought I car should be, and instead it turned out just the oppisite, not my car. I wish I could walk up to Adrian Van Hooydonk and back hand him right in the face for oblitirating my hopes, dream, and expectations for the car.... Hopefully one of two things will happen that will make it more appealing to me, A) They make minor tweaks w/ the facelifted model to hide some of the ugliness that exsist w/in the current design. B) They bring back the definitive proportions and inherent balance that exsisted w/ both the E24 & E31. Til then......

Why would you assume that the 6 series would follow designs of previous generations BMWs? No modern BMW looks like previous generations. The 6 series does have a continuous design theme but you're never going to find it if you're looking for it with designs of the past. I'm not sure why you would want to backhand Adrian Van Hooydonk either. He's an extremely talented designer (what are your credentials in design?) who now happens to be in charge of the entire BMW brand's design. Apparently, BMW's boardmembers or sales figure don't follow your thinking.

Now I would like to talk about this "definitive proportions and inherent balance that exsisted w/ both the E24 & E31" you mentioned as these two models share little to no design themes or proportions.

E24- it's "definitive" proportion was in accordance with the BMW design of that era, boxy. Look at the E30. It shares a similar appearance with the upright and tall driver's greenhouse and its flat hood, sides and trunk. With the next iteration of BMWs, the greenhouse and overall shape became less obtrusive and more streamlined, look at a E36.

E31 - this car follows the an extremely generic coupe shape. It could be mistaken for a Pontiac Firebird or any late 90's coupe like that. Perhaps generic is what you were expecting from a company that once gave customers just that, simple designs themes that carried across generations of cars, like Porsche. That was BMW of old, not BMW today.

First off, you need to chill out, you seem to have a real temper w/ your posts. Second, ALL BM's throughout generations share the same proportions and design chracteristics. Why state the obvious pointing out that the generations never look the same? And what are my credentials as a Transportation designer? Ha, I got em bro, "Best in class transportation design for Art Center College of Design Saturday High program 03'", AND I've had my worked critiqued by Soren Petersen of DesignWorks USA as well as Anders Warming, and Thomas Ward. All Designworks USA employees(bar Anders who has now joined Audi). So back up, and think before you type. I will no longer respond to your posts after this, I've taken my position and defended it.

You're post is exactly why I hate written correspondences. It's way too easy to misinterpret someone. I'm sorry if my post came off as poorly tempered. It's just my writing style. It wasn't meant as an attack on you. You seem to be quite an accomplished artist/designer. Congratulations, it's a great skill. But I think you're over reacting to my post. If you're going to make an opinionated statement in a forum where all we do is discuss cars, I think my post was within the boundary of acceptable responses. Were you expecting people to just read your post and not respond with their own comments and opinions? The whole point of forums is for people to express their opinions. If you just want to hear yours, I suggest you go elsewhere.

Also, I would advise you against your last few comments. When you're indicting someone of acting rudely, the following points make you look like a huge hypocrite: I did think before I wrote my previous post but as I write this I'm getting the feeling that you didn't. It just makes you come off as pompous (apparently Matt_is_bomb agrees). The whole thing about your no longer responding to my posts is childish at best and making comments like that isn't going to win you many friends in a forum like this. If you don't agree with me, ask anyone in this forum. I'm pretty sure they're going to agree with me on this one.

We are ALL entitled to our own opinions; we must (also) respect other's points of view whether we agree or not.

Stuttgarter, though i feel you are very intelligent, almost all of your posts are abrupt and extremely defensive and even somewhat negative.
