It's hard for me to look at the new CL and not see the influence that BMW had in its overall stance and demeanor. That's not to say that the CL has cribbed any BMW riffs in its design, but I am saying that the car has tailored its attitude twoards the "neo bold" trend that the 6er is a prime example of.

The 6er looks like a fat pig, and the CL is a fat pig.

Fair enough.

totally agree. As Osna already stated above, I can see an influence of the 6er design but not a copy. BTW it was a little bit clearer to me in the interior. the way the wood is arranged (center console and the doors only ...) and some more details here and there. I like the new CL and I think its my current favourite MB but I still think that MB could do more

I beg to differ a great deal! the new CL was clearly inspired by the older version 560SEC, MB really went "retro" with the new CL and gave it a more toned softer feel to the look. This design wasn`t BMW inspired.
Take a look for yourself..

I even noticed that the new CL has the same "winged" edge at the headlights much like that of the 1975-87 Mercedes SL. I thought that was a BMW 7er orignal but it clearly isn`t. MB had this idea ages ago. The new CL has this this design but on a morden note!

Now if we are talking about the CL63 AMG body kit looking like the M6, well thats wrong again because that kit orignally came form the Bi-Turbo charged SL65 that came on the scene a little more than 2 years ago before the M6 was born. That kit has just arrived on the 2007 W221 S65! and has trickled all the way down to the CLK63 this time (the W220 S65 didn`t have that kit. It had the same AMG kit as the S55.) The CL63 has almost twice the surface attention to design than the M6 does.

Re: 6 series with CL front lights (photoshop)

Sorry GTA, those cars look absolutely nothing alike whatsoever. Exect of the star, they are vastly different cars, built in completely different times. Nothing, nothing is the same here. The bodywork is completely and utterly different.

Re: 6 series with CL front lights (photoshop)

Oh Klier, I didn`t say the designs were the same. I said the new CL was inspired by the orignal SEC with some updated elements. If you were an MB fan you would understand that MB loves to take some of their most respected designs and evolve them. Did you know the new SLR was inspired by the orignal SLR of the 50s? heck MB even wants to bring back the orignal Gullwing. MB has the most respected history in this business, inspirational designs keeps the flow going.

I personally believe this new CL is closer to the SEC design wise than
the previous CL was by a long shot.

Re: 6 series with CL front lights (photoshop)

Sure, but to be inspired by an older MB model is only logical, and I am not denying that's the case.
The execution of the new CL however, with the way the sheet metal is placed and stuff, is quite close to a 6er in my view. Even the headlights (and that's probably why bmer made this PS)
At first glance, the cars are vastly different, but when you look at the details, it is not so different after all.

Re: 6 series with CL front lights (photoshop)

Alright friend, if you think so than I`ll respect your opinion. We should make a separate thread on this matter. Merc faners might not like this but maby MB did apply a few minor 6er elements to the CL to get some attention away from the BMW (,j/k )

(If anything the new CL reminds me of the VW Phaeton with the headlights and grill more so than the 6er http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/carltonslr/469.jpg)

With a base sticker of $100,657 the CL is one very expensive luxury coupe that sits on a whole nother level than the 6er! This is one beautiful car that more than likely to grab anyones` attention.
