Spied: BMW prepping minor facelift for 2008 6-Series
BMW is preparing a minor facelift for the 2008 6-Series coupe and convertible. The 6-Series first came on the market as a 2004 model and undergoes a minor restyling mid-cycle.
Most of the changes will probably only be noticeable to diehard Bimmer fans. Our two photos show a prototype at the Nürburgring in Germany featuring a new front bumper with new air intakes and some changes at the rear end like bumper and brakelight.
i was hoping for more.. i thought they would fix the front..ohh well
BMW doesn't want to P off current customers w/ radical refreshments of current cars, this also works to the resale advantage in keeping the prices at a premium.
My explanation is that the 7er facelift was hatched at a point where the BMW directors were pretty nervous about the tidal wave of negative press that exploded upon its release in 2001.
The 6er was born at a different stage and benefits from some better hindsight and the fact that the Bangle policy was actually embraced by consumers. Since there's no real "fix" to be done in the eyes of today's public, I expect a facelift that's pure details and nothing more.
I don't think the 6er will be left alone because BMW doesn't want to mess with a good thing - I think it'll be left alone because that's the expedient thing to do.
