There is some kind of plastic cover over the backlights. Don't worry.

SPY PHOTOS: Even More BMW 6-series Facelift

A new front bumper, revised taillights and a tiny spoiler lip at the rear edge of the boot lid – that’s what distances the facelifted BMW 6-series from today’s model. We gather that the interior will be refined, too!

Engines, on the other hand, will not change, and so customers will still have the choice between the 258-bhp 630i, the 367-bhp 4.8-litre V8 called 650i and the M6. We expect the facelifted model to debut at the Frankfurt Show later this year.

I wonder what that tape on the lights is hiding, perhaps LED lights?

Something tells me that North America will get the award winning N54 engine in the E62 with the facelift as 2008 models.
It makes business sense for them to do this for North America:
635i
650i

While I'd love to get a 635i (don't personally think I need a V8) I can't see BMW bringing it over to this side of the pond. Marketing tells them that Americans, for the most part, want a V8+ in their upper end cars.

There's an outside shot at the 635d if they try the environmental angle, but I doubt it as well.
