![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Autocar's 997TT vs. Gallardo vs. F430 group test I asked m5board.com what the comparison was about. I got this reply: Just Me: The discussion stems from the original article by Steve Sutcliffe about the "value" of the M6 compared to other super cars. The fact that it is equal or better in performance while at the same time offering intangibles that the other cars do not. As we all know, it really takes a while to appreciate this car for all that it is. I'm still learning abot the car and I'm a pretty fast study. Steve's article was a "revisited" perspective article that said" wait a minute, this car is pretty spectacular and worth every penny when compared to other super cars". Remember when the car first came out? All of the nay sayers blabbering about the car being too expensive and heavy and not fun to drive.Blah, blah, blah. Well it turns out that a lot of these folks are getting more quiet by the day. I myself responded to this negative hype and got into some pretty uncivillized confrontations on bimmerfest while defending this car that a surprising number of people were trashing. I was puzzled as to why soo many were down on the car when they knew nothing about it. Well, as I had predicted, there is quite a bit of silence out there now. Each more in depth review of the car gets better and better. I signed up for Google alerts for the M6 so I read every new article. The most in depth reviews are the most flattering. The reviewers that spend the most time with the car, appreciate it the most.Auto. enthusiasts everywhere are starting to acknowledge the car's brilliance. The point of this thread is a discussion of that premise. I believe that this premise is validated by the passion and the enthusiasm of the members on this forum. |

The M6 might not have the perfect beauty of the DB9 but it's not short on visual drama either... but that's not what it's about. Dynamically the M6 will hand the DB9 its boxer shorts on a gilt-edged platter. It's a big, heavy GT and yet doesn't disgrace itself as an outright supercar either. And, at the price... Look, I'm a huge Porsche fan and given the means, of course I'd opt for the 911 turbo. But, if I was counting pennies... put it this way: in SA the 911 turbo will be around R 600 000.00 more than an M6. Which means for 911 turbo money I could own an M6 and an RS4 for the same money. Talk about a value proposition? The 911 turbo, F430 and Gallardo are exceptional cars and on the track (more so the Lambo and Ferrari) they'd pretty much demolish an M6 - because that's not the M6's design intent. That it acquits itself so impressively is a testament to it being head and shoulders above anything else in its class. But, when it comes to real-world motoring the M6 is a bargain for what it delivers. The fact that it comes with the best engine in the world for 2006, replete with all that drama, charisma and massive urge score big points for the M6 in itself. BMW could bring out a slogan that says: "BMW M6 - what more could you possibly want?" And, if you did by the way, do you really think you could handle it? As a mere motoring mortal, an M6 is plenty fast, plenty gripping and plenty sexy for me thank you very much. So, yeah, I can see where Stevo's coming from...

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The M6 does have a perk, tought. De-restrict the car and go flat out on an unrestriccted autobahn against cars like the F430, 997TT and Gallardo, and at speeds in excess of 300 Km/H see who's crying. Trust me, at that point the later sport cars would beg for the road to end because while they're reaching their limit the M6 or rather its engine seems like it could go on forever. While the Prosche/Ferrarri/Lambo are on their last breath and can't go on anymore the M6/S85 is sublime. Yep, it really is THAT fantastic.
