Errm, this is an option on the M5 sedan as well!

I actually quite like them, plus they save the unsprung weight by something like 4kgs at each corner!

The most interesting thing I've seen today:

BMW breaking their own embargo.

Crazy world!

Ah.. yes I know that. What I meant was, it has that 'missing tooth' look. It doesn't look all that good.

Why the chrome in the first place? When the first generation of Bangle BMW's came out, they kept chrome to a minimum. You'd see chrome on the kidney grille, and maybe outlining the windows.. but that was about it. Now we have the 7er facelift with a chrome strip across the back, and now the 5er facelift with the chrome strip across the front.

Can someone explain to me why BMW's going back on their 'minimum chrome' styling ?

The strip is interrupted to give a space for eg. Active Criuse Control radar, or NightVision camera. Cars without these options will have a continuous strip.

Why chrome? Because people want it. Most of the customers (espacially in USA) still believe chrome represent luxury & prestige. BMW was forced to bring some chrome back.

People still consider shiny things as expensive.
