Yep, yeah it does stand out with the aluminum trim, moreso than with the wood IMO.

I think it is because the piece of wood in that area is exactly the same shape in every 5er, regardless of transmission and before and after the facelift. Because SMG and Steptronic transmissions have a different shape than the manual, they put the piece of plastic there to fill up the holes. That is probably cheaper than a differently shaped piece of wood in every 5er...

I mean, we're talking about, small, very small piece of wood, here, not the entire trim for f sake!

No, I don't think that's ok. But at least it looks ten time better than the pre-facelift with auto tranny now
