Re: Officiell Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

Look at this pic.. the wheels are totally PS'ed.

The car is literally sitting still, and what BMW have done is made the wheels and background blurry to add that 'moving' effect. I guess it's no real suprise though... just pointing out that the wheels look very awkward in that pic.

Also in that pic... what is the purpose of those 4 LED's in the rear light (on the side in the white part) ?? Is it coz of some US regulation. I see BMW has kept the 4 orange LED's in the front lights (in the eyebrow).

Thats simply Awesome!!!!!! best in class!!!!! Looks like im replacing my 650i!!! Great work BMW!!! The funny thing is in Australia our biased reviewers actually think the Holden COmmodore is better then this car!!!! I got a laugh out of it sorry if someone actually agrees with them!!!!!!
Hahahaha.. yep, I have that issue too. Comparing the BMW 550i with the Calais. I'd go as far as saying that those journo's were given a little 'honey money' to sweet talk the new Commodore. Must say though the E-class in that comparo looked absolutely stunning!

Also has the new front lights. All BMW did was photoshop the new front and rear lights onto old images of the M5.

Is this a 'planned' facelift of the M5 or was it a 'forced' one due to the fact that the 5er facelift was ready? I ask this because the M5 hasn't been out for all that long.. so it's a little strange to have a facelift this soon. Will there actually be a proper facelift down the track which would include a real change to the look of the car, ...maybe when they're ready to release the 550hp M5 ??

Think!

When introducing new design solutions (like eg. new headlight & rearlight graphics, interior layout enhancements, etc) then all variants get them. Do you think BMW (or BMW suppliers) will still built & supply old parts for M5 only? No way.

Same thing is happening with E81 introduction: E87 is getting a facelift simultaneously.

But that is what they did with the E46 M3, didn't "get" the facelift headlights, only the LED rearlights...

I've got another question: Will the new "High End" Individual Audio system also be available in the forthcoming M models like M3 or is this a M5 special??

Best regards, south

Good point: is it a "planned" or "forced" facelift. The answer might be both. The answer might lie in people like us the consumers that are driving change. Maybe more frequent refresh is the answer to maintianing a healthy sales.
Whatever it is, it shows that the management and engineering teams are responding the market. The price of not responding to such dynamics is lost market share.

You make a good point there chonkoa. I can understand that BMW kept the car looking fresh to keep the BMW and M5 name fresh in the mind of consumers.

But my question was more related to the scale of the facelift. Is this the traditional 'mid-life' facelift that all BMW's go through, or will that major mid-life facelift come around when BMW and ///M decide to increase the power of the M5 (due to the upcoming RS6) ?
I ask this because the facelift of the E39 M5 involved only headlight and tail-light cluster changes (exterior wise that is).
So I'm just wondering whether this will be the final facelift for the M5.. or whether it is going to receive another one in maybe 2-3 years time ?

BMW never does major face lifts on any of it's cars, only mild makeovers to keep the cars fresh in the minds of consumers, as was mentioned. Beyond that, sure BMW may increase the S52's hp (I believe that's the internal denotation for the 5.0 V10) to stay competitive with cars such as the C6 RS6, but I wouldn't expect anything more, otherwise would simply be out of character for BMW.

No, the S52 is the old E36 M3 engine, the V10 is the S85! (BTW: what's the name of the M3 E92 engine)
