from a member over at m5board.com - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Smoother than my E39, shifter all leather like my E34 M, this one had the brushed trim, not sure if you ordered the walnut if you would get a combo wood leather shifter like my E39. Nope you can't Turn off the DSC, so you have M dynamic mode, the " permissive stay up late nanny" or shall we say"Naughty Nanny". The ashtray is missing, actually didn't look to see if there was one , all I saw was what the pictures show..
She shifts well and pulls very well through all gears, must say I do like the feel of having my hands on the gear shift, I guess it's because of what I'm used to. The shift gate is no tighter, expect you still could add a short shift kit if so inclined>
You do wonder where the tranny is from???? E39 Upgrade??New design for E60??? Will it stay the course? >>> But those same questions are valid for the SMG also....It all depends what feels good at the time you make the decision...
So now I need to make my bed and sleep in it... SMG or 6 Speed....
Really enjoyed the ride...
Just remembered a couple of other things on the 6 speed during my drive..
1. On the HUD you can't see and gear numbers, not available with the 6speed, so you only see the speed and the RPM curve..
2. Think what they did was remove the cigarette lighter and put the MDC button there. and figured not lighter, then you don't need a lid..so we'll make it a whatever you wanna call it hold anything box...
3. Also says in the new brochure: "Steering wheel paddles(duh) and Drivelogic center center console DSC buttons are not available with the optional transmission.

Interesting, i would have hoped you would have been able to turn the DSC off. Either way, the 6 speed 'box is my choice for the M5. | | | | | BMW SM

Sorry, SMG. The S85 and SMG III were made for one another, so no need to break them up. | | | | | Devotee

Yes there is no sport button, you must do it all through the M button, which doesn't matter to me because its the first thing I hit everytime I drive it anyway! And yes DSC CANNOT be disabled completely, but it does have the DSC mode from the M3 competition package which allows the car to get a bit more "loose" before bringing it back. So from what my M3 Comp. friends have said you can still have some fun. I am hoping a tuner will come out with somthing for this issue though, wouldn't mind taking it off completely" | | | | | Connoisseur
