BMW M5 E34 Convertible revealed

BMW has finally confirmed that it developed an M5 convertible 20 years ago, but canned it a week before it was due to be launched due to sales concerns.

The long-rumoured car was shown to a select group of journalists at an event celebrating 25 years of the BMW M5, and autocar.co.uk has obtained exclusive photos.

Next to the fabulous M5 Convertible is the 1 of 2 E39 M5 Touring right? I believe I read somewhere that BMW developed two M5 Touring, the second of those belonging to Gerhard Richter himself.

FC123 will become famous soon enough
And I take it, we have the never seen E39 M5 Touring parked next to it...

Edit: Haha, too slow by a minute...

I wonder how many other treasures is still BMW hiding in their secret production halls. Probably many, some of them lay there forgotten

I wish they could reveal more secrets to us. M3 E46 sedan, the one-off M3 E36 Compact...

What cars do you think might have been produced in just a few numbers and never unveiled?

After reading the article I only hope that we will see the M5 Touring basing on the F10 generation. I know that the biggest market for the M5 is the USA, that's why most of the sold cars are Tourings, but please BMW, we want the M5 Touring again

Looks dated now, but that would have been such a hot car back then. Perfect competition if Mercedes had ever made a 500CE Cabriolet.

Similar pictures of the M5 Cabriolet have been around for ages.

The one I really want to see is the 850i with the M5 V8 engine and drivetrain built in the late 1990's. It was allegedly built for a BMW board member but was mothballed when the board member left BMW. I think that board member might have been Dr. Wolfgang Reitzle (now the CEO of Linde AG).

Oh, imagine owning both as collectables. Oh my oh my, I have such epic taste in cars. BMW can thank their lucky stars I'm not rich because I'd be camping outside Reithofer's office until they'd sell them to me.
