exactly. We helped spread the story, but it got twisted around

I find having KERS in the next M5 laughable since BMW can't even get it right in their F1 car.

Oh, they get it right alright, problem is, every car is better without it It is, so to say, contra productive from both the sporty and efficiency perspectives...

If next M5 is getting KERS. then Im pretty sure KERS isnt getting activated with a push of a button. Traffic safety, hello, the driver need to focus on driving, not a button when you want to pass a car. I believe the system will be activated automaticaly with a push on the gas pedal.

You mean like having a button for 100 more hp? No, I get what you mean, the extra energy will surely be used instead of the generator, making the engine work freely.

Nice, this machine got big shoes to fill! However, I'll badly miss the phenomenal high-revving V10!

pardon my ignorance as I am not up to date with F1, but what kind of problems is the F1 team facing with KERS? Why is the technology not working for them?

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director and team principal of BMW Sauber) ...
"There has been success in the transfer of KERS technology (to BMW's road car division)," he said. "Our engineers are supporting the research and development in Munich and that will continue for some time. What has been learned can be used not only for hybrid cars, but also for electric and conventional cars," said Theissen.
KERS (For performance cars) is the next big thing especially in light of future emissions regulations.
Engineers say the prototype set-up is working well with the F10 chassis.
Although at M division it helps if the base car is something really , really special.

Like most new technology, it is having teething troubles. Also KERS in F1 is limited by rules which restrict it to a maximum of 80HP for 6 secs/lap or something like that. Also weight and COG is of paramount importancer in F1 and KERS obviosly adds weight to the car in undesired places. In road going applications free of all those constraints, it is has great potential.

Of course in this forum, like most other stuff under the sun, people manage to even turn this promising piece of tech into fan boy war. If it was some stupid thing like automatic wipers or brakes, I bet you would have the half of the bling boys here swooning over how it is next best thing since rubber tires .
