Can't say that's fake now can we. Looks 100% legit. Interior appears to be more luxurious than I anticipated. Same interior parts and materials as the 7er, what will be the price?

Thanks!!! New official thread needed!

The car looks very good for what it is. The interior is stunning, and the back somehow looks better than the concept
This car will go perfectly with it's sedan and touring brother!

The panoramic roof looks great, and the ambient lighting and whole interior is maybe even better than the 7er!
I'm pleasantly surprised. The LED Angle Eyes look sweet

Edit; Luw, the regular 5er sedan will have this luxurious and stunning style too!

Headlights are a clear indication of the direction for the new 5er. I wonder if the interior will be the same because it's very alike the F01 cabin. As a corporate car it's good, cheaper then a 7-Series but offer comparable spaciousness.

Well MPVs are never pretty and anyone would have been a fool to expect a gracious shape.

I. Just. Can't. Get. My. Mind. Around. This. Car.

Ok, so there it is - what an unexpected leak on this dreary Thursday. Still, I'm left underwhelmed and desperate to see this parked next to the new F10 5er sedan and Touring for visual comparison purposes. So how much taller is it really than its siblings?

Klier, saying that this thing "looks good for what it is" is like saying a Japanese Giant Salamander "looks good for what it is". It's like I'm stuck in 1970's de ja vu. Brown cars, fastbacks for luxury models; what's going on? There's something about this car's profile that jars with me. The back is particularly heavy-looking, dwarfing the rear wheels. Lessons learned from the E60 BMW? I think not.

Will it still have the "bootlid within a hatch" rear door configuration?

Now, I'm the one looking at this car saying "What possible rational reason would you have to buy this over a sedan or wagon from the same model range? Arresting good looks? Think not. Family-friendly practicality and versatility? Nope.

No, I think I'll pre-emptively label potential customers as those who are looking for a car with an armchair-like driving position and weird proportions.

Before Scott joins the discussion by claiming that the car is dynamic, sporty, lifestyle orientated and fresh -- which are BTW words he use to describe any BMW BMW regardless of size, weight or purpose -- I have to proclaim the car as a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. And to rehash what I said in my earlier posts, corporate sales is really the only place sector where the car fits in. And even there it will face doubts from potential customers who favour something more pragmatic like the 7-Series or the Mercedes Viano which is a very popular VIP car.

From a family perspective I can't think off anyone that would buy this car for the sake of their noisy toddler to smudge down those large seats in the rear. I am adamant that the X3, 5er touring and X5 are better purchases. Though I have to say that the boot size of the GT isn't that bad but the rear visibility is somewhat of an issue. From an image perspective the design is slick but the shape isn't and many people will therefore opt for the X5 instead of a German rhino on wheels.

Let me quote Luw for your answer

The shape is form follows function for this car, and when the function of a car becomes ample interior space, the shape per definition never is all too pretty. But I think BMW did a great job because the car is pretty handsome from a lot of angles, and not utterly ugly like it should be.

Not entirely. BMW's purpose here was clearly to produce an MPV but now that they are obsolete thanks to SUV, and therefore played the coupe card by giving the car a slanted roof slicing off some utility in the name of design. It can be seen as the Panamera and R-Class married into one. It is a very risky niche car and it's going to be really interesting to see if consumers will bite. Any product that cannot be explained in one sentence is difficult to sell.
