When it does, it could take the place of the current 5-Series Wagon altogether. According to BMW's Martin Birkmann, head of product planning, "it's possible" that the hatchback 5-Series could be the replacement for the more traditional wagon. The new body style hasn't won many fans online in BMW forums, but it does give BMW a more visually distinctive vehicle to sell against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon, which also arrives in the U.S. in the next nine months. BMW plans to launch the new 5-Series GT late this year. The first model to make its debut will be a 550i GT, outfitted with BMW's twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V-8 engine. ![]() | It would be retarded to have both the Wagon and the GT. It's not like the Wagon sells much out here anyway, at least I know I've rarely ever.... if ever.... seen one. |

![]() | Aaaah, of course! I forgot Americans don't like wagons like we Europeans do. So it might actually be true in the States, but 100% not here. Europeans love their wagons. I see so many all day every day. Besides, 5er wagon is far into development. Would be stupid not to offer it in the U.S as well.... ![]()

![]() | Whatever BMW AG desides, the US market are not that much into wagons so the GT is more of a niche than the 5er wagons.... Maybe the 5er GT could replace the much preferred Volvo wagons in the US, Volvo wagons are most popular overthere, outselling the German offerings. Then again Klier has a point, why not market both GT and wagon in the US, can't do any harm ![]() In the EU, both will be equal in appeal from EU country - to - country and that wiil be the same for the richer Eastern country's. In South-Africa and Australia the wagon will do better than the GT... |

![]() | ^ In the EU the Touring will do much better than the GT. Definitely not equal. Touring will be much more practical for everyday use. For instance, where do I keep my dog in the GT? In the trunk?
