Mercedes was wrong, yep, but BMW hasn't prove squat either. The car hasn't gone on sale or been driven by the press yet. BMW is far from being "right" until the market gives its answer. M

True. Yet we'll have to wait a few years. Since this year, and in 2010 - market will be bad far ALL premium vehicles. I'm sure eg. Porsche & Audi will have to tone down initial expectations for Panamera, A7 etc. Just like they did for the existing models - since demand dropped by 30% or so. Another thing: MB expected R-class will become a mainstream - just like ML did. While BMW have no such ambitions. And more: GT is much more premium inside than R-class with Van-like layout (flat-floor, seat-rails etc). Theres much more sedan-like atmosphere in GT than in R-class. IMO R-class cabin is even bigger deal-breaker than the exterior. Since the van character is much more present inside the cabin. Due to typical van-ish cabin layout. Although very upscale & prestigious van-like cabin. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I honestly don`t believe there can ever be a "right car" design to fill the shoes of this class of vehicle just yet. There are too many variables to deal with. One of them is what loyalists expect from their beloved car company, the other is the overall design language and performance the company has to offer. These sort of vehicles are still working there way into the "right" shoes so to speak. (You can`t expect an overall successful design when the very concept is still in the developement stages) This is not like the established niche of the E-Class and 5-Series cars. There are going to be huge mistakes where ever you cut the cake.

![]() My feelings were: What a tragedy, but i looked to the interior and i thought it was HEAVENLY, i might even prefer it over the 7er's, and then shong wanted to give this another chance and after looking to the profile and front shots i disliked it less and less, it's not a beauty but there are more esthetic thoughts and idea in the design of this car than what might first appear.
