BMW E39 Exclusive Edition - 03-11-2008, 11:25 AM

Hello guys,
I'm interested in buying a BMW E39.
After some research I decided to try and find a good Exclusive edition example - It look much better than the standard.
Can you help me with the differences from the regular E39 - What special equipment, colors, materials...
I would also appreciate any advice on what to look for and what to pay attention to before buying such a car.

some pics -

Re: BMW E39 Exclusive Edition - 03-17-2008, 06:56 AM

Hello guys,
is there a real difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 engines, what about the 3.0 and 3.5 V8 (In terms of performance, efficiency...) . Would appreciate any help from those who own an E39.

There is a marked difference between the 2.5 and 3.0l engines (about 40kw??? I don't recall exactly), and - at least in our market - significant difference in features. But there is not much point going the 3.5l V8 over the 3.0l I6. Dad owned a pre-facelift E39 535i and once the updated 3.0l engine was introduced (early 2000's), there was about 10kw difference between the engines and the 535i became virtually irrelevant. That said, it did offer the nice V8 torque and a few extra features, but for the price difference it wasn't really worth it.

The 3.0l of course also offered better fuel economy and efficiency, as the 3.5l engine wasn't updated through the E39's lifespan (as far as I know!), and was quite an old engine by the time the E60 came along.

I would pick the 530i out of the three - a great balance of performance, economy and value. Still a good looking car too.

Also - I am not familiar with the 'exclusive' edition, BMW only ever sold the Executive and Sport models here (of which I would pick the executive - I think the sports pack is starting to look a little tacky nowadays, especially those 17" M wheels). The 'exclusive' pack sounds like some sort of limited edition (with a few extras added?), in which case if you were to find one with low miles, in good condition and for the right price I'm sure it would serve your wants perfectly

Re: BMW E39 Exclusive Edition - 03-17-2008, 12:02 PM

Thanks Germaniac
I don't have the official info - but from what I figured out, BMW introduced 3 edition models during the last 2 years of the E39 life : Exclusive, Lifestyle & Sport Ed.
The Exclusive edition seems to be the most luxurious with combination of special paints, Nappa leather, full electric, combination of two kinds of wood inlays, chrome strips outside on the bumpers, doors and boot.
Those are the differences I noted. I would appreciate if someone gave more information on the selection of the special colours and equipment.
Actually there is not a big difference in terms of price between the different engine versions- however I believe the 535i will be much more expensive to own and run.

Here are two more pics of this edition -

interior wise thiss exclusive edition is not much better than the regular whatever its nomeclature is, but exterior wise it looks intereseting
btw you can get a 2001, 2002 525i in lebanon for close to $21000 maybe less, a comparative 530 costs the same due to fuel consumption

Here we go:
  • Wishbone(s)
  • Brakes (discs and pads)
  • Automatic transmission
  • Turbocharger (diesel only)
  • Differential (can be noisy)
  • Mileage (can be faked - check the service manual)
  • Hidden accidental damages

Hope that helps.
