^ no. That shifter will be here for a long time, just like the old shifter was here for a looong time.
The new 7er has one too, remember? New 7er, 5er, Z4 all have this one. Or one very similar to that one, like the one posted by Tycoon (in the E63 6er LCI)

OT: I am flattered by the upgrade of materials in both the 5/6 series after the recent facelifts ... they really upped the game and its like they hired a new team or changed their standards .. or simply a new supplier ..
klier check it out since I remember you own/owned a pre facelift 6 series. you'll be impressed, the knobs/materials are all top notch

The "old" shifter is for the standard 6-speed automatic. The "new" is standard when ordering the sport automatic, that was introduced after the facelift. It shiftes faster (120ms) and afaik comes with the shifters behind the steering wheel.

Yes I know. When the F01 arrives, it will probably be the first BMW since the introduction of the E63 6er with a better quality interior (materials). The 6er after the facelift is very shiny from the inside, and very goodl ooking imho!
